Towards the end of the month of February for first time ever, Ray-Ban was actually pushed down into second place as our best selling brand.  But who could overpower the might of the best known eyewear brand in the industry?

Oakley

Oakley became our current best selling brand in February, in a close fought "Battle of the Brands" the like's of which we have never seen before (it was very close!)  The question now is can Ray-Ban fight back to their number one spot in March? Or will Oakley tighten their grip at the top of the table and extend their lead over the next month?

I for one can't wait to see how this battle unfolds, it's like the ultimate battle of good vs good.

In our last post – Battle of the Brands, we reported a new challenger to our list of Best Selling Brands.  The battle has really heated up between the top two – Ray-Ban and Oakley.

In this post we break it down even further to show you our Top 3 Best Selling Prescription Glasses for Past Three Months up to the End of March 2013.

1. Ray-Ban RX5184

The New Wayfarer by Ray-Ban is still "The Daddy".  It's been our best selling frame since the day the first man walked out of Africa.  The Ray-Ban RX5184 continues to out-sell all other prescription frames at an impressive rate.  Is there any wonder though, I mean it really is a great fashion accessory that just never goes out-of-date.

People are even buying this frame who don't need glasses just because they want to look cool – just select Plano lenses if you don't need a prescription.

The black option above in colour 2000 is the overall winner, but the Havana colour – 2012 is also very popular as well as the other black options which feature the Ray-Ban logos printed on the insides of the frame.

The Ray-Ban RX5184 continues to be our Best Selling Frame Overall to date.

2. Oakley Crosslink

The Oakley Crosslink has been an incredibly popular frame since we introduced it to our website in the second half of 2012.  We love this frame so much we even named the Oakley Crosslink our Glasses of the Year 2012 for it's unique sporty but fashionable style, comfort & fit, and it's main unique selling point – the easily interchangeable arms, giving you the chance to switch your style from smart to casual at a moment's notice.

Although the Oakley Crosslink was our second best selling frame during the last three months, it actually outsold the Ray-Ban RX5184 in the last 30 days making this frame the 'one to watch'.

Since the original Crosslink was launched, Oakley have introduced a metal version of the frame with the Crosslink Pro and the new Crosslink Switch with interchangeable lenses.

SelectSpecs Opticians in Westgate-on-Sea is one of the first opticians in the country to stock the prescription spectacles, as well listing them on our website for those who can't make it to our store.

The glasses look set to be a winner with fans and particularly children who may be nervous about wearing glasses because they don’t think they are “cool”.

Okay, we admit it, it's true, we like movies at SelectSpecs.com and especially Superhero movies it seems.  This week we went to see The Wolverine with Hugh Jackman… We didn't actually go with Hugh Jackman unfortunately, he's just in the film.

The film features Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova as Viper, who is frequently seen wearing these rather stunning looking Tom Ford FT0304 Nastasya Cat's Eye Style Sunglasses in colour 28G.  The shape is a perfect match for her character and the colour seemed to go with any outfit she was wearing during the film, but then I suspect she would look good in a welding mask and boiler suit.

These sunglasses are described by Tom Ford as Shiny rose gold with, shiny dark havana temple tips and gradient brown flash gold lenses (Gold basically).  But a word of warning, these are currently in limited supply, particularly in this colour.

They are also available in Shiny palladium, silver with shiny Black temple tips and dark grey flash silver lenses – so Silver then really.

Oh, and in case you were wondering… we thought the film was great.

Oakley Superfan and YouTube User EyeSpy0099 has produced a few videos on his channel that caught our attention.  This helpful fellow in Miami, Florida produces video reviews and features on guns, knives and Oakley Sunglasses (amongst other things). 

Needless to say, he really knows his stuff when it comes to Oakley sunglasses and he's certainly not short on choice when it comes to deciding what sunglasses to wear for the day.  His Oakley Sunglasses collection is something to behold.

Okay, so some of these videos are a little old now and some models featured may be discontinued by now, but the information featured is still pretty solid and certainly relevant for people looking to find out a bit more before making a purchase.

Can You See My Eyes? Oakley Iridium Lenses

In this video he talks mainly about the various Iridium Lenses that Oakley offer and how they work with various frame styles. 

Oakley's Iridium lenses have a more reflective surface – almost mirror-like in some cases.  These might be the lens of choice if you're looking to hide your eyes, but there are some things to consider such as frame shape or the colour of the tint that can effect this as explained in the video.

Oakley Non-Iridium Lenses – Yes, You Can See My Eyes

In this follow-up video he goes into more detail about Oakley's Non-Iridium lenses, with non-reflective surface, which in general can allow other people to see your eyes.

Emily Blunt is currently starring alongside Tom Cruise in the summer blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow – which happens to be pretty damn good actually.  It’s great to see Emily Blunt scoring such great roles in movies these days.  She is fast becoming my favourite actress of late.

Emily Blunt looks great whether she is in combat armour or dressed up in a suit & Givenchy sunglasses for her latest TV commercial.  She was snapped on a boat wearing the Givenchy sunglasses while filming the upcoming TV commercial for a watch company.  The ad looks like it will also feature actress Cate Blanchett, also wearing some fashionable sunglasses.

Last weekend’s Glastonbury signals the season of music festivals and hopefully an awesome Summer.  What’s the first thing you need for a music festival?  That’s right, wellies.  But right behind your boots it’s important to be prepared for the harsh English sunshine we’re guaranteed to have.

Singer, Rita Ora is wearing Dolce & Gabbana DG4183 sunglasses in colour 656/6G – crystal acetate with grey gradient lenses.  These sunglasses are decorated with flowers in pastel shades which have been hand-crafted and carefully applied with the tears of a mermaid.

Unfortunately, just like mermaids, it looks like these sunglasses are hard to find in this colour now, but if you’re lucky there may still be some limited availability on these in the black 501/8G colour here.

Dolce & Gabbana DG4184 Sunglasses
